The Sebasteion Temple is located within the ancient settlement of Caria, near Geyre Village in the Karacasu district of Aydın. Dedicated to the Roman Emperors (Sebastoi), this sacred area is situated on the eastern edge of the main north-south street of Aphrodisias and southwest of the forecourt of the Temple of Aphrodite. The site of the temple is an older area that fell outside the grid city plan. Built during the period when Roman emperors were accepted as gods, the temple was constructed to pay homage to the power of the emperors and to emphasize the strong bond between the city and the Roman Empire. The word Sebasteion, meaning the Temple of the Emperors, confirms this relationship.
